A cake's cost isn't just flour, butter and cream. Add packaging and a cake board, decoration (if you're doing anything beyond standard), and — most often skipped — your own labor time. Skipping labor is the most common reason prices end up too low.
An hour spent on a cake is an hour you're not doing anything else — not another order, not resting. If you don't price it in, you're effectively subsidizing the customer with your own time. Set the hourly rate you'd want to earn and treat it like any other cost.
Margin is profit divided by price, not by cost — $40 profit on a $100 price is a 40% margin, not $40 profit on a $60 cost (66%). This mix-up is the most common one and can understate how profitable an order really is.
Not until you create an account. Everything is calculated in your browser and only stored in the page's URL — you can send yourself the link.
From a market price catalog we update regularly based on real store prices. You can freely edit them — they're just a starting point.
You don't have to, but we recommend it — the calculator shows margin with and without labor separately, so you can see the difference and decide consciously.
The "Save this recipe" button carries your filled-in data into the sign-up form — you don't start from scratch in the app.
